The 'Weeping Woman' was originally a cubist expression by Picasso, of one of his mistresses, Dora Maar. Gripped by a number of questions which would stimulate one's curiosity, such as "Why was this woman crying?" and "Why, instead of comforting her, did Picasso decide to paint her in such a broken and distorted manner?", I appropriated the original, with the use of post-modernist techniques adopted from the American Graffiti artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat, to re-contextualise the artwork in an attempt to answer these questions.
